April 2009
The right-wing National Unity Party (UBP) was leading the way with nearly 44 percent of the votes, while the ruling Republican Turkish Party (CTP) of Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmed Ali Talat trailed behind with 29 percent.

Rudy Giuliani is the leading Republican candidate for 2008 in the current polls but his private life - wives, kids - are continuing to be under growing scrutiny. Daphne's television crews spent three days with Rudy and Judith after they got married. The presidential bid was already mentioned by then! As well as their exceptional bonding...
"It made me and my wife much closer..."
DB: I asked your wife Judith the same question: Do you feel that coping with both traumas - fighting cancer and trying to lead during September 11th - change your relationship in anyway?
RG: Sure, it did. Absolutely.
DB: In what way?
RG: Going through cancer and going through September 11th together... I think when you go through difficult things one of two things happen: It either makes you closer or separates you. In both of those cases, it made us closer. You learn a lot about each other. Like I said you either grow or you separate. In our case, it made us much much closer...

Does Barack have "it"?

Daphne's personal note!
Inside the exclusive cocktail party of Barack Obama (New York, March 9th 2007): "Even my friends and I, who have been working for other candidates, had to admit that something new was happening... The exclusive cocktail party for the most exciting candidate for the 2008 elections, was more like a rock concert. The guests of this party were the elite of New York society, but unlike other fundraisers, they were young generation lawyers, financial wizards, entrepreneurs: America's future decision makers who want a change! And Obama is the answer to their call. Political experts don't remember such an excitement since President Kennedy. And the Kennedy name was all over yesterday evening. The first speaker was Ted Sorensen who wrote the speeches to the late president. Then - came Michelle Obama. Her speech was an entertaining reminder of Laura Bush ("It is nine o'clock Mr. excitement is in bed and I am watching 'Desperate Housewives'")'s funny comments about her husband. But the look was Jackie, no doubt: Michelle's hairdo, her outfit.  And then came Barack. He had all of us by 'Hello'..."

The Syrian president has won 97.62 per cent of the vote in a referendum that handed him a second term in office, officials say.  But the US denounced the poll, in which Bashar al-Assad was the only candidate, for offering no real choice to the electorate.

President Robert Mugabe although he has said in an exclusive interview with Daphne in 2005: "This is my last term. No, I am not going to change my mind!"  Apparently - he did.

No third term for Putin! Russian President Vladimir Putin will not stay on for a third term in 2008. Putin has repeatedly insisted that he wouldn't run again. However, he is expected to maintain a powerful role after 2008. Also - he is allowed to run for re-election in 2012.

On March 2008 (Vladimir) Putin's handpicked candidate is facing the music... No reason to get anxious: the outcome is guaranteed in advance! Putin's choice is a winner. Big time!
Kennedy versus Clinton
In a dramatic move, Senator Ted Kennedy, his son Patrick and his niece Caroline Kennedy (only daughter of slain president JFK), joined forces to endorse presidential candidate Barack Obama.

The Kennedys and the Clintons have been friends for years. Daphne has been a friend and a supporter of both families. Although she was in the know-how of the Kennedy clan fascination with Obama for months, such public address, just before Super Tuesday,  was a big surprise.

Here is Daphne with president JFK's speech writer Ted Sorenson and Maurice Templesman at Jean Kennedy Smith (JFK's sister) house in New York. They discussed Barack Obama's potential to become the Democratic presidential nominee. Sorenson was the one who introduced Obama few days earlier to New York mover and shakers. Among them - Daphne.
KENNEDY FAMILY & THE US PRIMARIES
After the defeat of Papadopoulous at the elections in South Cyprus recently, there is new hope for resolving the problem between North and South Cyprus, so said Mrs. Talat at the dinner that Daphne hosted in London for her on

The intimate dinner included former British First Lady Cherie Blair, Bianca Jagger, the High Commissioner of North Cyprus in London and others.
After Benazir Bhutto was slain during a political rally, the elections are scheduled for February 18th, 2008. Asif Ali Zardari took over as the head of PPP with his son Bilawal  Bhutto Zardari. Nawaz and Shahbaz Sharif are competing as well. But would the elections go smoothly or the violence would escalate?    Daphne interviewed all candidates: President Musharraf, late Benazir Bhutto (who was her friend), Asif Ali Zardari, Sharif and Imran Khan.
Mugabe is demanding to go for a run off. He lost the elections for the parliament. The opposition claims that he lost the elections for president. But the veterean ruler has refused any numbers so far. Instead - he demands to go for another round of elections. Opposition says: "No!".

It looks like many are gambling that John McCain would become the next US president because of the Democratic split. Beside the fact that he was a P.O.W., not many know about McCain, the person.
