89 year old Mandela - although frail - has been honored by two heads-of-state. British PM Gordon Brown attended the unveiling of his statue in London, while French President Sarkozy went out of his way to greet him. Daphne has conducted the famous interview with Mandela while he was a President ("I found love"). The interview included a visit in Robben Iseland, where he had been jailed for the third of his life. She has also conducted the first interview with Graca Machell at the President's mansion! Daphne became top news in South Africa: interviewing Winnie Mandela (Nelson's former wife) and Graca Machell at the same 48 hours.
Jorg Haider of Austria
Austrian far-right leader Jörg Haider died in a road accident Saturday (October 2008). His car crashed in Klagenfurt, the capital of his home state Carinthia. Haider's party caused an EU boycott of Vienna when it joined a coalition government. Daphne interviewed Haider when he was in power.

Vilma Aspin, wife of Raul Castro and de-facto First Lady of Cuba, has decided to protect Daphne while she was in Cuba. She indeed got her out of trouble, while Daphne was interviewing Cuban women who had to go prostitution in order to earn money. She has also arranged the main interview... Daphne interviewed Kurt Waldheim in Vienna in 1987. It was the first interview he gave, regarding the allegations about his reported Nazi past. Waldheim shocked the media worldwide when he didn’t schedule the interview at the President’s palace, but came to Daphne’s hotel and did it there. Of course it was front pages all around the world. The President, who kept insisting during the interview, that he had no Nazi connections, finished it in a disturbing note.
