The Carroll family wishes to publicly thank Daphne Barak for her efforts to help resolve the captivity of Jill Carroll. She initiated the discussion of Jill's case with Sheikh Sattam Al Gaood and continued to communicate and keep us updated on the sheikh's activities through many weeks of Jill's captivity.
We also appreciate Daphne's efforts to enhance the press coverage of Jill's case throughout the world. Her connections with many Arab media outlets ensured their interest in Jill's story.
Thank you Daphne for your assistance during our time of crisis.
Jim Carroll

We cannot begin to properly thank all of the individuals and organizations who made significant efforts to free Jill. We may never be certain which steps actually led to her release. And we can never be aware of all the people who devoted their time and resources--and took risks--to find her. The most significant reward we can offer them is the picture of Jill back in the arms of her family, and the indescribable joy and relief so evident on our faces.
We know that they shared in our joy. We can only hope that the families of the other hostages in Iraq will soon feel the same joy. We also deeply mourn the death of Jill’s friend and interpreter Alan Enwiya
We wish to express our gratitude to the many people and organizations whose contributions we were aware of, and acknowledge those that cannot be named, for their own safety, and due to the continuing nature of their important work.
First we thank the staff of the Christian Science Monitor, for their efforts in Baghdad and Boston, as well as the security consultants who worked with the newspaper in Iraq.
We also thank (in alphabetical order) Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad and his all the American Embassy staff in Baghdad; CNN and the many Western and Iraqi media organizations that kept Jill in the public eye, and reinforced her credentials as a journalist; the Committee to Protect Journalists; the many Iraqi political parties who called for Jill’s release; the Government of Iraq; Mr. Jassim Boodai; the Kingdom of Jordan; the many religious organizations that voiced moral appeals; Reporters Without Borders; Sheikh Sattam Al Gaood; and US military forces in Iraq and Germany.
Jill’s friends and family, who have been so supportive, and the millions of people around the world who prayed for Jill’s release, should take great comfort in knowing that their prayers--and ours—have been answered.
In gratitude,
Jim, Mary Beth and Katie Carroll

Subject: note

Dear ________,

Just a brief note. i know how very busy d is these days, hardly  an
hour out of airports, and taking care of guests all  over  the world.

I've seen the great stir in england  with all the stories about                 .    i  don't know if her interview has  been broadcast yet. it is  obvious that  the interest in this story has not died down.  the current guest of d's friend is known by many to be the key.   his closest confidants know everything.  he is protected right now
because he  can do  good.  but it will be impossible to continue  hiding what really happened if any harm happens or things are not resolved.  one can only  hope that this guest wishes to continue  to  be known to all as someone who was working to save her as opposed to  being the one responsible . she is bound to  learn more  on her  next  trip

i'm sure she  knows  that  i wish her good success and I  hope  she  is watching out carefully.  from all i've read,  would  urge her to be very  alert.  he is probably  a bit paranoid, but maybe he has good  reason to be so. someone showed me a  google satellite  picture  of ................... the other day, it is amazing to see how sharp  the details are, it picked up everything.

well i'm sure she will enjoy  finishing the final interview for her  next program.

I wish to again thank Daphne Barak for her continued support both during my daughter's captivity, and in the months since she was released. At her own expense she arranged interviews, managed media, outlets and made contact with influential people here and in the Middle East. Our efforts to have my daughter released were made in many ways, with the help of many people. I greatly appreciate Daphne's contributions to those efforts.
